In Our Name—Actions on Medicare

The September membership meeting will highlight the road shows on Medicare that are being shown by the Gray Panthers around the state and around the city. Leading off will be Margie Metzler of the Gray Panther California Medicare Part D Project, with a slide show and discussion that she is presenting up and down California. Following her will be the SFGP Health Committee’s version, fine-tuned specifically for San Francisco audiences. So far, (end of August) we have presented this version to three separate audiences.

We need your opinion, your input, and your approval of our program. We need your help in finding places to show it. We need your participation in a full-blown campaign to repeal the Medicare Modernization Act and pass HR 676, the Conyers Medicare for All Bill in the US Congress, and SB 840, the Kuehl bill for Single Payer Universal Coverage for all Californians, in Sacramento.

These programs are presented in your name. See what they’re saying. Put in your two bits.

As we go to press, SB 840 has passed out of committee and will be heard on the Assembly floor. The vote is expected to be extremely close. Is universal health care really on the horizon?
