We have witnessed a continuum of lies, from “weapons of mass destruction” and the “mushroom cloud” to “rebuilding” Iraq’s infrastructure, solely to justify this illegal occupation. “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” “Axis of Evil,” “Shock and Awe,” “Coalition of the Willing,” “outlaw regimes”—the language is designed to obscure, not clarify. The latest, “Return on Success,” which followed General Patraeus’ report, is just another footnote in the Bush arsenal of weapons of mass deception.
End Occupation of Iraq Now!
The month of September was filled with daily resistance against the war with protests against the refusal of timid politicians in the “Beltway” to tighten the purse strings of war funding. Code Pink women interrupted the hearing of the Petraeus’ betrayal. People from across the country came to camp in front of the Capitol to establish a tent city. But the National Park Service fenced off the lawn for “re-sodding”, and police arrested 190 people. Still on September 15, tens of thousands marched, filling Pennsylvania Avenue, calling for impeachment and bringing troops home NOW! Thousands from all parts of the country, will march in Washington and LA on September 29.
