Wed Feb 1 1 PM	Speak Out for Workplace Health Care! Come to the SF Supervisor's Budget and Finance Committee Hearing on Ammiano's proposed Worker Health Care Security Ordinance requiring SF employers of over 20 employees to provide health care expenditures for their workers. Wed, Feb 1 7 PM	Sendoff for Bay Area Teenagers to New Orleans. Teens from McClymonds High in Oakland and Balboa High in San Francisco are traveling to the Gulf Coast to join the Finding Our Folk Tour, a multi-city gathering where displaced hurricane survivors and their supporters will fellowship, organize, heal and hear the truth about what happened from those who lived it. Thurs Feb 9 1 PM	Demand CMS take responsibility for the Medicare Part D Diaster. CMS (Center for Medicare Services) is the federal agency responsible for administering Medicare. CMS is implementing the Medicare Modernization Act, which ultimately privatizes all Medicare services and threatens the existance of the entire program. Join CARA and the Gray Panthers in demanding CMS fix this disaster. 75 Hawthorne St. Downtown SF. Map and directions. The Hurricane Evacuee Council of the Bay Area (HECBA) is calling for a protest action on the upcoming FEMA eviction of evacuees from hotels and motels; the on-going housing crisis faced by evacuees in the Bay Area and elsewhere; the millions of dollars going to relief agencies that evacuees are not receiving; the bulldozing of the lower 9th ward; insurance company scams and more.
