4 Years of War and Occupation

On March 18, Gray Panthers joined with other anti-war and peace activists to march against the fourth year of the war on Iraq. The organizers and no doubt all who participated, including some of us who have been marching for decades, were outraged and incredulous when they read the SF Chronicle report stating that only 3,000 people protested and marched. We all were there, completely covering six lanes of Market Street for 15 blocks and taking well over an hour to enter Civic Center. Fifteen Gray Panthers marchers later joined others at our table at the end of the route and watched as people streamed in for at least another 45 minutes. Perhaps the Chronicle count referred to the police, whose presence in large groups, with nothing to do, was seen everywhere
