Seniors and disabled people are faced with a daunting task trying to decide whether they want to enroll in a Medicare Part D drug plan, and if so, which one. There are dozens of plans, numerous formularies and tiers, plus deep anxieties about not knowing how these plans actually perform.

AB 51 requires that the State Department of Managed Care, which already prepares report cards on the quality of health service plans, prepare report cards on the quality and accessability of California Medicare Part D plans and make them easily available to people choosing a plan.

Read letter CARA has written about AB 51 here.

It must be passed by the Assembly by Jan. 31, 2008.
