The manufacturers of the blockbuster drugs Vioxx and Celebrex knew their drugs caused serious heart damage for several years before the information was revealed, resulting in many deaths.

The clinical studies of drugs are carried out by the drug companies themselves, so even the medical researchers who write medical journal articles evaluating the drugs cannot be sure they are being given all the data on clinical studies that were done.

AB 606 would require pharmaceutical companies to make available the clinical studies of drugs sold in California, so consumers and healthcare providers could judge their safety and effectiveness.
