International Day in Solidarity with the People of Haiti: End the Foreign Military Occupation of Haiti! Stop the War against the People of Haiti! Respect Haiti's Sovereignty! This is the 20th anniversary of the overthrow of the dictator "Baby Doc" Duvalier in 1986. Assemble at Powell and Market Sts (Powell BART) for rally followed by march down Market St to the Brazilian Consulate at 300 Montgomery (btwn Pine & California, Montgomery BART, map) for a demonstration. Special Gray Panthers Brunch with activist lawyer Lynne Stewart, a stalwart defender of rights who is in SF following a trial on terrorism charges that could have sent her to prison for the rest of her life. More. The prosecution is appealing her light sentence, and Lynne is appealing her conviction, so funds are still needed, but anyone who would like to meet Lynne and the Gray Panthers Civil Liberties/Human Rights Committee is welcome.
