The Gray Panthers envision quality, comprehensive, single-tier, single-payer healthcare for all, with a strong environmental and preventative public health component. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 1-3 PM, What kind of healthcare do we want? The SF Gray Panthers Health Committee's main issues are: Medicare (under construction) Some of our actions: Dec 10 & 14, 2007: Participation in Demonstraton against CPMC-Sutter plans to close St. Luke's Hospital. Sutter has already begun slashing services at St. Luke’s and plans to completely shut down acute care services . These plans are palpably racist and anti-working class, as CPMC treats 1/6 to 1/7 the proportion of poor and minority patients as St. Luke's, and closing St. Luke's will leave Latino, African-American, and other low-income area residents with no acute care beyond the already overtaxed SF General Hospital. SF Chronicle article. More on the demonstration. See the Save St. Luke's website. This was part of California Nurses Association strike against 13 Bay Area Sutter Healthcare hospitals including SF's CPMC & St. Luke's, over hospital closures, safe staffing violations, erosion of pension and health plans, and demanding lift teams to prevent RN injuries, and rapid response teams.
